SMALL, DEDICATED BREEDER.

About Wedgewood Primitives

Wedgewood Primitives was built from over two decades of experience living with, training, showing, and working with northern breeds. Alyssa Storm-Gould has owned Samoyeds for more than 20 years and has spent over 15 years actively involved in the conformation world and showing her own dogs while developing a deep appreciation for breed preservation, structure, temperament, and responsible breeding practices. She remains in good standing with the AKC, the Minuteman Samoyed Club, and the Samoyed Club of America.

While Alyssa has spent many years immersed in the breed community, Wedgewood Primitives is still in the early stages of its breeding journey. Her focus has been on taking the time to build a strong foundation through mentorship, health testing, showing, pedigree research, and carefully selecting the right dogs before moving forward with breeding plans.

Her connection to the Samoyed breed became especially personal when one of her Samoyeds became her service dog. That experience fundamentally shaped the direction of her program. While Samoyeds are not traditionally the first breed people associate with service work, Alyssa saw firsthand how stable, intuitive, human focused temperaments can be cultivated through thoughtful breeding and early development.

After many years devoted exclusively to Samoyeds, Alyssa was introduced to the Yakutian Laika through respected breeder Carrie Smith of Northstar Primitives. In 2025, she welcomed Annie, ‘Northstar’s Annie Get Your Gun CM, CM2,’ into her home with the goal of helping preserve and continue the breed’s bloodlines in her region.

Yakutian Laikas are an ancient primitive breed historically used for sledding, hunting, reindeer herding, and guarding camps in harsh Arctic conditions. Alyssa was drawn not only to their beauty, but to their athleticism, versatility, weather resistant double coat, and strong connection to their people. In the United States, the AKC recognizes the Yakutian Laika in the Miscellaneous group. Gaining popularity, the Yakutian Laika should be inducted into Working Group with full recognition within the next few years.

Today, Wedgewood Primitives reflects Alyssa’s commitment to preserving healthy, stable, well structured dogs that are capable not only in the show ring, but as true lifelong companions.
